Dirgantara Statue Monument or more known as Patung Pancoran (Pancoran Statue) is one of the monument that exist in Jakarta. Location of this monument in Pancoran region, south Jakarta. Right in front of Wisma Aldiron office complex that was once the Air Headquarters Air Force. Its strategic position as a gateway to Jakarta for the newcomers who had just landed at Halim Airport.The first idea of making a statue of President Soekarno, who wish to be made a statue of the Indonesian aviation or aerospace. The statue depict human space, which means that illustrates the spirit of the Indonesian people the courage to explore space.
The statue was designed by Edhi Sunarso circa 1964-1965 with the help of Arca Yogyakarta Family. While the foundry process conducted by Artistic Bronze Sculpture Decorative of Yogyakarta Leader I Gardono. Heavy bronze statue reaches 11 tons. While high the statue is 11 meters, and the base of the statue is 27 meters. The process of construction work carried out by PN Hutama with Ir. Sutami as executive architect.
The work had been delayed due to incident PKI 30 September Movement in 1965.
The statue design is based on the request of Bung Karno to show the might of Indonesia in the field of aerospace. The emphasis of the design of the statue means that to achieve the strength, the Indonesian people rely on the properties of Honest, Brave and Eager.
